Jupiter appoints Ben Whitmore << Back

Jupiter is delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Whitmore as a Fund Manager for Jupiter UK Special Situations Fund.

Ben, who will join Jupiter from Schroders in October, will take on responsibility for the £122m Jupiter UK Special Situations Fund and will also be important to the development of Jupiter's institutional business. During his 12-year career at Schroders, Ben has established an excellent track record as a value-driven, contrarian fund manager.

He has been responsible for running both retail and institutional portfolios and currently manages some £2bn of assets, including the £281m Schroder Recovery Fund. This portfolio has achieved returns of 83% against 31% for the UK All Companies sector average since he took over its management in August 2001. This places the Fund 10th out of 215 in the sector.

Ben is, in addition, responsible for managing the Schroders' Income Growth Fund, Split Investment Fund and around £1.5bn in specialist value mandates for more than 20 clients. Ben will take over the Jupiter UK Special Situations Fund from Paul Sheehan, who will continue to manage the Jupiter Primadona Investment Trust and institutional mandates.

Edward Bonham Carter, joint chief executive of Jupiter Asset Management, said: "Jupiter's strong performance record has resulted both in an increase in our share of unit trust fund inflows and our team winning the Investment Week Global Group of the Year Award for the third year running. We have made no secret of our desire to add talent to our team as the business grows and we are delighted to have attracted someone of Ben's calibre to join our UK desk. "

Ben Whitmore said: "Jupiter has a reputation as one of the best fund management houses in the UK. I am very much looking forward to working with a team that includes such well-respected names as Anthony Nutt, Philip Gibbs and Ian McVeigh."
