SRI Research Process

Our research process involves a 'twin track' approach combining:

  • Our specialist Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Fund Management Team, focused on financially led stock selection.
  • Our SRI & Governance Team, taking a proactive approach to environmental, social and governance research.

To determine whether a company is eligible for investment, we:

  • Research the company through meetings with its management, on-site visits and desk-based research.
  • Receive and analyse information from other interested stakeholders including campaign groups, financial analysts and trade bodies.

The SRI & Governance team assesses a company's suitability based on the following criteria:

Jupiter Ecology Fund:

Focus on companies providing solutions to environmental and social problems. This focus has led to six green investment themes: clean energy, waste management, water management, green transport, sustainable living and environmental services.

Good Governance companies  Companies that do not naturally fit into our green investment themes are evaluated based on how they manage their key environmental and social impacts.

Ethical Criteria We research companies to discover if they are involved in activities that conflict with the Funds' environmental, social and ethical objectives and to ensure it meets the ethical criteria. If we are concerned about a company's involvement in such activities, we will not invest in it.
Leading company assessment Companies that demonstrate leading practice amongst their industry peers.
Limited impact company assessment Companies that have relatively low environmental impacts and therefore can manage these appropriately using a 'light touch' approach
Small company assessment Companies whose management have a commitment to improve performance and can demonstrate that key social and environmental risks are managed well.

Jupiter Environmental Income Fund:

In addition to the above categories, the Jupiter Environmental Income fund may invest in the following category:

Continuous improvers Companies typically working towards continuous improvement in policies, processes or performance in the areas of Corporate Responsibility. These companies will also be demonstrating how their impacts are managed and reporting on their progress.
