Guy de Blonay to co-manage Jupiter Financial Opportunities from 1 June 2010 << Back

Guy de Blonay will be appointed Co-Manager (1) of the Jupiter Financial Opportunities Fund, working alongside Philip Gibbs, on 1 June 2010.

Guy, who has 13 years' investment experience, joined Jupiter in an advisory capacity in January 2010 from Henderson New Star where he was responsible for a number of mandates, including the New Star Global Financials Fund, which produced substantial outperformance of its benchmark in the eight years he managed it. Between 28 December 2001 and 21 October 2009 the New Star Global Financials Fund produced a return of 173% compared with -33% for the FTSE Global Financials Index (2). Before joining New Star, subsequently Henderson New Star, Guy worked at Jupiter for six years.

Philip has managed the £1.2bn Jupiter Financial Opportunities Fund since launch in June 1997 and has built an outstanding long term performance track record, delivering a return of 843%, ranking the Fund 1st out of all 697 unit trusts over that time period. This compares with 49% for the FTSE Financials Index. Furthermore, the Fund returned 7% during 2008 against the backdrop of the worst equity markets since 1973-1974. This compares with -48% for the FTSE Financials Index (3).

Philip Gibbs, head of Jupiter's financials team, which also includes Robert Mumby, said: "Guy has built a tremendous track record as a financials fund manager and I am very much looking forward to working alongside him on the Jupiter Financial Opportunities Fund. Philip Gibbs - Fund Manager, Jupiter Financials Team
Philip Gibbs joined Jupiter in 1997 and has managed the Jupiter Financial Opportunities Fund (Unit Trust) since its launch in June of that year (until 1 June 2010 when he will become Co-Manager). He also manages the Jupiter Absolute Return Fund (Unit Trust), the Jupiter International Financials Fund (Unit Trust), the Jupiter Global Financials SICAV and the Jupiter Second Split Trust plc, as well as institutional money.  Philip has had extensive experience as a stockbroking analyst specialising in equities of UK financial companies, having worked in relevant roles between 1983 and 1997 for both BZW and Laing and Cruickshank.  Philip studied History at Cambridge University and is a Chartered Accountant.

Robert Mumby - Fund Manager, Jupiter Financials Team
Robert Mumby joined Jupiter in 2006 and is currently Co-Manager of Jupiter Global Financials SICAV.  Robert started his career in corporate finance at the Industrial Bank of Japan before moving to KPMG where he worked in audits, tax and corporate finance.  Prior to joining Jupiter, Robert worked for twelve years as an investment analyst specialising in financial services companies, most recently Canaccord Capital, but also HSBC, ABN and BZW/CSFB.  Robert has a BSc Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester and is ACA qualified.
