In recent years the financial services industry has seen a growing number of non-UK residents becoming the targets of postal interception fraud by organised criminals in relation to their investments that are managed in the UK.

The main group of non-UK residents affected by this type of fraud are South African residents; however, other countries' nationals are also vulnerable to this method of attack.

The unlawful interception of mail by criminals is a way for them to obtain confidential customer account data. When in receipt of this information the fraudster then attempts to pose as the account holder in order to try and steal or transfer the funds away from the customer.
